After thirty years of living in America, I’m still wide-eyed amazed, thoroughly enjoying the bright side of American culture of friendly smiling faces and laughter-filled TV screens. Before I came to America, I once heard someone say that every American is a half comedian. Almost true! Blessed free thinkers, so many Americans are humorous.
The first thirty years of my life was spent in the stiff and humorless Chinese Communist culture that put deep fear into everyone’s heart. Smiles or laughter were rare. Friendly greetings between neighbors hardly existed. Hugging was unseen and kissing unheard of. And days of the masses were injected with angry yelling and screeching shouting of the Party’s slogans to condemn the class enemies. Children were taught to report their parents to the government for “thought crimes,” wives to husbands, and neighbors to neighbors.
The land of smiles and laughter is healing and brightens my mind like America’s beautiful clear blue sky with nurturing warm golden sunshine and fresh air. I am “addicted” to America’s funny TV shows and hilariously funny comedians.
One of many great American comedians I enjoy listening to is the late George Carlin. He mixed humor with a lot of common-sense. Except once, when I found myself disagreeing with himas he ridiculed a visor hat: What kind of a hat is that, without the top? It’s a half hat! You got scammed. Go back to the store and demand a refund.
While amused by his hilarious refund-demand joke, I was surprised that this wise man had totally misjudged the greatest value of a visor hat.
By no means, a visor hat is “half a hat.” It’s a lot more.
A visor hat has an eminent healing effect on our physical health.
Whoever invented the visor hats must have profound understanding of the great outdoor nature and human health. According to the ancient Chinese medicine theory, the top of our head is the best place for the sunshine to come in and nurture our body. A visor hat does just that, leaving the crown of our head exposed to receive the gift of nature. By the way, visor hats weren’t even invented in ancient China but in young vibrant America!
While both a visor hat and a regular hat provide a cool shade to prevent too much sun from damaging our facial skin, each has its own other useful functions.
A hat hides a person’s hair, keeps their hair neat in place, and also helps keep our body warm on cold days, as our body heat escapes mostly through the top of our head. But, a hat also blocks off the precious UV light from the nurturing sunshine. That’s when the healing visor hat pitches in to make up the deficiency of a hat.
By exposing the top of our head to the sky, a visor hat absorbs the precious sunshine our body needs to help keep us healthy and our immune system boosted. And, a visor hat also helps cool our body faster, again through its open top, when we are jogging, running and exercising outdoors on warm days.
On days when the sun is too bright for my eyes, I wear my visor hat walking and jogging outside for fresh air and sun. My face is safely shaded, while the sun caresses the crown of my head. It’s a blessed healing power in my daily healthy living.
A visor hat is also very flexible, if it’s made of cotton. I can easily carry it around inside my small thin backpack. It stays in shape and is wrinkle free.
I’m grateful for the invention of the visor hats, one of the world’s greatest.
